Selena Gomez Teases Secret ‘Revival’ Event, Talks Album Artwork and ‘Same Old Love’

It seems like every artist is touting their new album as their most personal project to date, but Selena Gomez is letting her work speak for itself. Earlier this week, the pop princess pulled back the curtain on Revival‘s album artwork, which tastefully features her in the buff with a hint vulnerability in her eyes. When the singer joined On Air with Ryan Seacrest in-studio on Friday morning, she revealed that she wasn’t nervous to unveil the Linda Ronstadt-esque cover because she had already put “so much emphasis” on her mature direction.

“Of course, I could do the really super cool makeup and the really cool structured outfit,” she explains. “I can do that whole thing, but I chose this one because it’s stunning and I thought it was such a beautiful representation of where I am.” The album artwork is also likened to Christina Aguilera‘s 2002 Stripped, which Selena admits was one of her favorite albums growing up. While recording Revival in Mexico’s Puerto Vallarta with hitmakers Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter from Semi Precious Weapons, Hitboy, and Rock Mafia, Selena used the pop diva’s 20-song collection as the exemplar of what an album should be.
