Pop star Selena Gomez sat down and spoke about her new hit record, trying to face her fears and her goals for the future.
The teen sensation, who turned 21 on Monday, said the album — including her smash hit Come and Get It — is different from anything she’s previously recorded.
“I just wanted to come back with a bang and be confident,” Gomez said.
Gomez’s high-profile relationship and break up with teen idol Justin Bieber made headlines this past year, but the singer says this album represents a turning point in both her life and career as she tries to take more control.
“I have a tendency to always try to please people.” she said, adding that this album was where she had begun making more personal creative choices and singing the songs she wants to sing.
Life in the limelight
Gomez says she tries very hard to maintain a regular life, but it is incredibly difficult.
“I try my hardest to be a as normal as possible,” she said.
“It’s hard. If I do one thing and somebody finds out, you tend to get scared, but I don’t want to get scared of living my life. I can’t be scared to want to hang out with someone or go out to the mall … but at the same time i do try my hardest to keep things that are super private to myself.”
