Selena Gomez Short Interview with Latina!

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, we asked the fiercest Latina celeb, Selena Gomez, to share tips on being a boss, gorgeous, and totally badass.

Your new Pantene campaign motto is “Strong is beautiful.” What does “strong” mean to you?

For me, being strong is being completely confident in who you are. I spent the last year getting to know myself, and I realized the most important relationship you have is the one with yourself.

What’s the hardest thing you’ve had to overcome?

The habit of being so mean to myself. I was my own worst critic. There’s so much pressure to be a certain way. I had to stop and stand back and say, “Is this good for me?” It’s about awareness; now I allow myself to take care of myself.

What’s your life philosophy?

“Everything happens for a reason.” That’s true of auditions, friendships, and relationships. I’ve had yeses, and I’ve had nos. Good things and bad things. I always try to reflect afterward and not be anxious about why something didn’t work.

What’s your can’t-live-without beauty product?

My bathroom is filled with beauty products, but lately I’m all about taking care of my hair. I haven’t wanted to dye it, and I took my extensions out. I love Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner. It makes my hair soft, strong, and super shiny. I comb the conditioner from root to ends so that all my hair—not just the ends—is moisturized.

Your new album, Revival, drops this month. Where did you find inspiration?

It’s instinctual. You need to have that bark inside of you. I poured everything into this album mentally. I wanted to create something that was authentically me.

What do you want people to know about you?

I’m a real person. I have bad days too. I can take good selfies, but they might be after I spent two hours in a hair-and-makeup chair. You don’t have to be perfect; there’s beauty in flaws.
