Selena Gomez Is the Face of Puma’s New DEFY Sneaker

Selena Gomez is taking her relationship with Puma one step further this month as the face of the brand’s new Defy sneaker. The announcement comes shortly after Selena’s Phenom Luxe collaboration with the brand sold out almost immediately ($100,000 of the proceeds went to Lupus research, a cause close to Selena’s heart).

“To defy is to be brave” Selena says about the new shoe. “It’s about pushing the envelope and not obeying any ‘expectations’ placed on you by society. Puma has captured this feeling perfectly with their new Defy training shoe. I remind myself daily the importance of defying the outside noise and being true to myself.”

While this new style is very much an athletic shoe, the chunky silhouette is reminiscent of the sneakers we’ve seen hit all of the runways in the last year. With a white upper and black platform, they’re perfect for the gym but can be worn with pretty much anything — and Teen Vogue has your first look at the silhouette.

Alongside the release of the sneakers, Puma has launched their Defy App (which can be downloaded here). It asks users in Los Angeles to find posters around the city to register for a chance to win entrance to the Defy City Experience on May 16th and meet Selena in person. Casual.

If you can’t make it to California for the event — or snap photos of the posters — don’t worry. The sneakers will be available on puma.com on March 31st. If you can’t meet Selena, at least you can match her.
