Selena Gomez designed a high-waist bikini that covers her kidney transplant scar

Selena Gomez is putting her design sense to practical use.

Gomez, 26, heralded the swimwear launch of her close friend Theresa Mingus’ brand, Krahs Swim, Thursday. Of her three swimsuit designs, one bikini has a special high-waist feature close to Gomez’ own heart.

“The design I did, one of them, it was the high-waisted one with the belt. I’ve had a kidney transplant, and I like bathing suits that kind of cover where that’s been and make me feel comfortable,” Gomez explained in a YouTube video shot with Mingus announcing the launch.

In 2017, Gomez revealed via Instagram she’d received a kidney transplant as part of her ongoing treatment for lupus, explaining, “it was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

Mingus said in Thursday’s launch video: “Every woman wants to feel sexy. Every woman wants to feel confident and beautiful. I definitely want to have a variety of different pieces so everyone can wear them.”

The swimsuits have been designed with affordable price point (pieces range from $39.99 to $69.99).
